The Cullens have moved back to Forks after Edward's little escapade with the Volturi. They have adjusted back to Forks and Edward and Bella took up right where they left off with their relationship despite the fact that Bella has been grounded for her escapade to Italy to get Edward back. Things take a weird turn for the Cullens when an illness that vampires can get, crops up. The symptoms are much like the flu, fever, vomiting, nausea, chills. But the difference is that when vampires feed during the illness they don't process the blood like they used to it starts pumping through their veins and they become humans.
At first the Cullens seem unaffected by the illness, and then the Denali show up at the Cullen's door. With Katrina being affected by the illness. And soon they find it is contagious because Rosalie started to show symptoms of the illness and now Alice is showing symptoms as well. And much like they turned into vampires the transition back to be human is painful and not something people like to do. The illness is a mystery to everyone and no one is quite sure how to react to it.
Meanwhile, the La Push wolves are trying to figure out what is going on with the surge of vampires in Forks. They don't quite understand why the population is surging and falling at the same time. Jacob is becoming increasingly worried about Bella being around so many vampires. The rest of the La Push tribe is more concerned with the vampires that are around and not sure how to react at the moment.
The other people in Forks are worried about why the Cullens are missing so much more school than they normally do and why Bella has been missing school with them.
