"Why I didn't get out of the fire before the house started to collapse... I just didn't realize it because I've never been around someone that smoked regularly..." She closed her eyes and looked away. She laughed when he said there wasn't much to do. "You got that right," agreed. "They did leave me a pack of cards and a notebook, though." When he said he had to leave, Kiara just nodded. "I won't," she responded when he told her not to overload again. She watched him leave, a small smile playing at her lips.
"He really can be very kind," she said quietly. Her smile turned sad. There had been one specific member of her security detail that had been very similar. He'd even come to visit her in the hospital after the fire. He was more of a brother to her than simply security detail though. He'd been a friend of her father's since before she and her sister had been born. Since before her father and her mother had married, even. He'd always seemed gruff and kinda cold when he was around others that weren't family, but had always been a sweet guy to the twins.
Kiara wiped a single tear from her cheek. She reached again for the cards, getting ready to play solitaire. She hoped her uncle would come in soon. He'd know more about the overload than Kiara. And he didn't know about the smoke allergy yet. Then again, Kiara only just realized it.
