For years humans and mutants have been at odds with each other, finding new reasons to fuel their mutual hatred each day. This is how the past year has been, with Magneto and Senator Kelly being the most prominent speakers on the issue, while the X-Men are stuck in the middle of the impending Apocalypse.
Senator Kelly calls loudly for the registration act, a law that will force all mutants to register themselves and their powers for the public to know of. Should Senator Kelly succeed, his secret Sentinel Program will come into public view. Joined with Bolivar Trask, the two are the brains behind the project. Funded by a secret donor, the program has grown tremendously and is even experimenting with new generations of sentinels before getting the okay to unleash them onto the world.
Meanwhile, Magneto watches the movements of Senator Kelly with interest from his metallic office in Genosha. Having been granted the war-torn nation in exchange for not attacking the world anymore, Magneto has turned the small island into a true paradise. Completely self-sustaining, Genosha offers a worry-free life for all mutants. Genosha knows no poverty or hunger, only peaceful existence, the true utopia. However, with Kelly's threatening ways, Magneto and his Acolytes have begun their own secret plans to silence the senator.
With Senator Kelly and Magneto already so close to declaring war on each other, it came as no surprise that the X-Men were under an increased about of stress, especially with the Brotherhood causing their own havoc in the United States. But all is not well with the heroic team, as their institute was recently invaded. An unknown mutant broke into the lower levels of the school and publicly revealed the secrets that were found.
This is how the knowledge of the Xavier Protocols were revealed to the world. While the majority are safely locked away under Muir Island, the more recent entries were easily discovered at the mansion. Through his writing of them at the school and sending them to Muir Island, Xavier unknowingly endangered mutants as he left a trail to the protocols. Now the race is on for Senator Kelly and Magneto to get their hands on the 200+ entries detailing how to kill some of the world's most powerful and well-known mutants, including Charles Xavier himself.
The X-Men are caught in the middle of the coming war, left nearly helpless as the opposing sides race for the protocols, while the X-Men are left distracted by the Brotherhood. Can the world's greatest heroes fight off both Magneto and the Brotherhood, while protecting the protocols as well as convincing Senator Kelly to stop the war on mutants?
