What freaks. I hope that the someone will do something about them someday. The words sliced through thoughts like ice, her dark eyes opening as she glanced over at the small couple on the bench a couple spaces away. The man held a paper in his hands, reading a story on one page, shaking his head as the woman next to him nodded in agreement. She sighed softly, standing as she turned and stuck her hands into her pockets, fingers gripping at the fabric with slight tension as she began to move down the path, black boots scuffing on the cement with each step.
'Why do they hate us?' Genevieve thought softly to herself as she continued to move slowly down the way, reaching up to tuck a single lock of her hair behind her ear. 'Oh Damian....where are you when I need you the most?' Another thought almost like a whisper in her head, almost like a slap to the face as it came out. She hadn't seen her brother in months, and that single encounter had only been a few brief seconds, a few seconds barely afforded in fact. After all, when you're on opposite sides of the playing field, it's never easy to try and be friendly on such terms. But it wasn't much easier staying away either.
Hey, watch where you're going! Genevieve looked up, startled as the man spoke, instantly ducking her head down, eyes gazing upon the ground as she answered him. "Sorry sir, I didn't notice you there." Genevieve said softly, pushing past him without much more. For years now she had been afraid, so afraid of the consequences of this war that all mutants were secretly fighting. She knew that Magneto wanted to stop the X-Men and their passive ways of peace, their attempts to make nice with the human race, but she didn't know where she stood anymore. She had only joined with the Brotherhood to feel safe, to feel like there was something in this world that she still stood for. But she just wasn't sure anymore.
Please Genevieve! Come back with me! Get away from that place, it's not good for you! Genevieve replayed the words in her mind over and over again, remembering that night so clearly. But she had denied him. Once again she wondered if it had been the right choice to make. Shaking her head, she only continued on in silence, keeping to herself as her feet dragged softly on the stone beneath, lost in her thoughts, lost in the struggles of her life in the current moments, lost in the world she knew now.

“What freaks. I hope that someone will do something about them someday.”
It was just his luck. He finally finds out what he is, that there are other people like him, that he’s not such a freak after all and it turns out that not only was he pretty much the last person to find out, but ‘his kind’ is pretty much reviled as being freaks anyway.
He could put not knowing about mutants down to not having much of a social life. The existence of mutants wasn’t really a well known fact – or at least not a publically acknowledged fact, the government seemed to deny their existence pretty strongly – but the rumours and the evidence was everywhere. They were still something of an urban legend, like Bigfoot or Nessie only much more believable and Jason knew for a fact it was true.
Potentially this meant that Jason now belonged somewhere, fit in in a way he didn’t with his regular peers, but it also meant that he was at an even greater risk of being picked on and ostracised should his nature ever come out. Talk about a mixed day.
“Hey, watch where you’re going!”
He turned as he heard someone call out, turning from his place on the bench – the one next to the one where the couple sat – to see a girl around his age nearly bump into someone. Seeing that she was nearing him he slipped his hands into his hoodie’s pockets; the ‘skin condition’ on his hands and forearms were the only physical sign of his mutation – he assumed – and while he was pretty adamant about keeping them covered up before, he was even more so now.

A walk in the park was an excellent way, for Vinny at the least, to contemplate about many things. It was also a great way for the young mutant to practice his control with the wind abilities, turning something as common as a slight breeze into a gale-force wind in mere seconds. While on these contemplating walks, thoughts of the Brotherhood versus the X-men would often pop into his mind. Humans weren't a concern to him; they were the inferior species vying for a piece of the pie. Unfortunately, this wasn't a pie that they couldn't obtain. No, the concern to Vinny happened to be the traitors to the species, the squeaky-clean X-men, who thought that the two species could happily live together. It was mind-boggling to Vinny; he honestly could not understand why these mutants were not content with being the most dominant thing on the planet... period. Well, one thing was for certain: they would not impede the progress of evolution. Not while Vinny was still making hurricanes.
Vinny buttoned his cardigan sweater and looked around the park at the many people in the park. He snickered and looked forward, walking around aimlessly. He then stood still and felt his hair dance around as he outstretched his arms and enjoyed the natural breeze. He inhaled deeply, then exhaled as the slight breeze began to grow stronger and faster. While Vinny was now taking control, he did not go overboard with it and stopped it after a couple of people were now holding their clothes, papers, the like. He simply enjoyed the freedoms of being a mutant and he wouldn't trade it for anything else. Just as he was basking in the privileges of being superhuman, he heard a confrontation be adverted. His attention turned to the two people who seemingly bumped into each other. Normally, Vinny wouldn't care. That was, until he recognized the person who had been apologizing.
Vinny fixed his hair and plucked the lone leaf off the shoulder of his sweater, then began to walk over to the familiar face. Yup, she just so happened to be the girl who belonged to the brotherhood. As he walked towards her, the name seemed to escape his mind. Still, he knew that she was a mutant and that was all what mattered. As he walked closer to her, the same guy who brushed her made his way near him. In a quick act of rage, Vinny created a large gust of wind aimed directly at him, knocking him off his feet. Vinny scoffed and positioned himself on the left side of the fellow mutant.
"You didn't have to apologize to that guy, you didn't do anything wrong."

Genevieve was still so lost in her thoughts that she wasn't exactly paying attention to the things occurring around her. In fact, she barely even registered the pick up in the wind, her hair twirling in the sudden gust as it swept past her. Memories filled her as she just moved right on along. You didn't have to apologize to that guy, you didn't do anything wrong. The sudden words startled her from her thoughts, and instantly she came back to reality. Looking at the one that was walking beside her, she noticed that it was another member of the Brotherhood, a fellow mutant.
"It was an instinct." Genevieve responded quietly. She couldn't quite place what his name was. There were so many members as well as new ones that joined up almost everyday, so it wasn't like she could remember each and every person individually. Of course, she knew that this particular mutant was one of the ones that was all for believing that the human race was nothing, that they deserved to be lower on the pyramid in this world.
"Vinny, right?" Genevieve questioned, eyes darting to his face as she spoke. She didn't even notice the young boy on the bench not far from them, who was seemingly hiding himself from the two coming mutants. If she had looked she probably would have suspected something, probably would have guessed that there was something different about him. But she didn't see him, so she didn't think these things in the least. Instead, she just waited for an answer from her new companion.
As the two passed by the boy on the bench, Genevieve couldn't help but let her eyes dart to him for a second, feeling eyes trained on her as they walked. She almost stopped to talk to him but decided against it at the last moment, unsure if this boy was even like them at all. As she moved around him, her foot grazed his ever so gently, but that was all it took. She tensed for a moment, eyes closing in pain as she felt the shock travel through her body, the shock of her abilities. She grew faint for a moment and stumble, ending up leaning onto Vinny for support as they continued to walk, her head feeling light as she came out of her daze. 'I've never lost control like that before...I must be so distracted that I can't concentrate.' She thought to herself as she glanced back at the boy who seemed a bit startled by her sudden reaction.

As Jason looked at the girl she was joined by another teenaged boy also around their age; strangely, as this boy walked past the man the girl had bumped into a strong gust of wind had knocked the man off his feet. Normally Jason would have dismissed this as a strange occurrence and left it at that. Given what he knew now though it seemed like more, it seemed like something a mutant might do; especially since the boy seemed to know the girl and seemed kind of angry about the whole incident.
He was probably just reading too much into it though, Jason couldn’t say with certainty that it wasn’t just a coincidence. Still, he watched the pair as they walked closer, not paying enough attention to know to pull his foot in as they walked past and having the girl graze past his foot in the process.
As soon as the contact was made something strange happened; he felt himself weaken for a moment, his body seeming to grow heavier and uncooperative as he also felt a faint spell pass over him. It passed as quickly as it came and he pushed himself back up to a seated position – having slid out of his seat slightly as he lost control of his limbs – and turned to face the girl curiously, seeing that she seemed to be recovering from a similar experience herself. Or at least she seemed to be if the way she was leaning on the other boy was any indication.

"It was an instinct." She had said. Vinny nodded; it was only common courtesy to say 'excuse me' or the like whenever you bumped into somebody, intentionally or not. However, the lesser being should have apologized; the human, whether he was in the right or not, fit the bill of the lesser being in Vinny's eyes. His attention was to now spend some time with a fellow Brotherhood mutant and caring for his sweater. Actually, Vinny had taken some time to smooth out the small creases in the arms of his sweater, also letting a satisfied smile come out after he was finished. His attention had turned from his sweater back to the mutant as they carried on with their conversation.
"Vinny, right?" She asked. Vinny smirked and lightly shook his head.
"Our codenames are our true identities, so my real name would be Hurricane," Vinny began to say. Catching himself before he started sounding like Magneto, he nodded and extended his hand. "But yes, Vinny is right." Vinny stood next to the mutant and accompanied her in a very small walk, seeming to tower her in height. Eith Vinny, ever since he left the family home, he had to make wages work on his own and given his need for an expensive lifestyle, scamming others out their money was a norm for him. With this little 'career' he had going, he was often away from the hideout at many times, therefore, he had not have gotten the pleasure of meeting all of the mutants personally. Not to say he had not seen them or recognized them, but she was one of the first mutants on his side whose identity and power he did not know or remember.
"Mi scusi, I'm sorry, but I didn't catch your name and power. Would you please freshen my memory?" He asked, feeling a bit foolish after receiving her answer. As the two walked, they happened to come next to a child who seemed to be younger than Vinny and keeping to himself on a park bench. Vinny nodded and stopped suddenly as Genevieve stopped, tensed up, and began to fall. Vinny's eyes widened as he extended his arms and caught her, then lifting her back up onto her feet.
"Are you alright? You almost took a bad fall, there...[b/]" Vinny's attention then jumped to the boy sitting in the park bench with Vinny flashing a smile at the other boy, trying to save both him and Genevieve from the awkward situation. Well, the situation didn't seem so awkward when the other teen happened to experience the same thing Genevieve experienced; almost slumping out of his chair. However, he caught himself and his and Genevieve's eyes met.
Vinny backed up and played with his hair (fixing it back up again immediately when he was finished), with his hazel eyes darting back and forth at the mutant girl and the unfamiliar boy. The confusion on his face was evident as he stuttered out the only question his mind could come up with.
"What just happened? I-I...I'm lost." He admitted, finishing up with an exasperated sigh. Too weird to be a coincidence; well, nothing seemed to be normal nowadays.

Are you alright? You almost took a bad fall, there... Genevieve nodded as she continued to lean onto Vinny for support, she shook her head again slightly, once again glancing back to the boy that still sat on the bench. From the look in his eyes, he was just as confused as Vinny sounded. A small breath escaped her lips as she gently pushed again Vinny and righted herself, glancing back at him, and for a moment, their eyes met before he pulled away. Genevieve's own eyes darted to the ground for a moment before she looked over at Vinny playing with his hair, answering him with another small shake of her head. "I'm alright. Just....lost control for a moment." She said quietly.
Turning, Genevieve moved over to the boy and knelt down in front of him, looking up into his gaze. "Are you alright? I know that was probably an odd experience for you." She said as she continued to gaze at the boy. She saw his nod, and with a slight smile, she stood once more, moving over back towards Vinny. The boy was alright, which was good, but that didn't mean she was just going to stand there with the complete stranger. No, she wanted to be near, and with, someone that was slightly familiar to her, even if she didn't know him quite that well yet.
"To answer your earlier question, what happened was a display of my....gifts. I must have been so out of it that I nearly possessed the boy." Genevieve said softly as she watched Vinny, seeing the slightly surprised expression in his gaze, but also seeing the look of awe and admiration there too. She didn't know what to think of that, but chose to brush it off as she looked away again, waiting for an answer as she began to lightly twirl a lock of hair around her finger, trying to distract herself in this uncomfortable moment between the three of them.
A soft sigh from between her lips broke the silence as Genevieve took a step forward again so that she was now in between them both. "The name is Genevieve, by the way." She said with a soft smile as she glanced back at Vinny with her dark, searching eyes, still twirling the lock of hair around her finger as she glanced between Vinny and the boy once again before letting her gaze rest on the ground.

“Possessed?”
So, apparently now he had a definitive answer on whether or not these two were mutants. Also he had a name for her now, Genevieve, but somehow he considered that to be less important than the fact that weak spell came from his nearly having control of his body wrested away from him.
“Uh, right, Genevieve. I’m Jason”, the teen stood up from the bench, feeling the need to be up and active now that he knew what had nearly happened to him; it might have been silly but he felt better just knowing that his body was still actually under his control. He paced a few steps before stopping and facing the other two mutants again, removing a hand from his hoodie to rub his eyes gently and pinch the bridge of his nose.
“Sorry, sorry, I’m still getting used to this whole ‘mutant abilities’ thing. I only recently became aware of your existence. Our existence I guess”

Possession... wow, what a gift. Vinny's hazel eyes widened as he silently repeated what Geneieve had admitted. She had the power of possession? Vinny tried not to seem too mesmorized about it, although he had to admit that whenever he saw or heard the extraordinary gift of another mutant, he was always stunned and dying to know more. However, if she almost accidentally possessed the other teen, then like many other teens and inexperienced mutants, she could not accurately control it. No biggie; that was what the Brotherhood of mutants for. Just like the X-men would train their students on their powers, the Brotherhood would watch over their soldiers and help them with control also. Vinny tried to stifle a smile though failed; he just loved mutants.
"Geneieve, hmm?" Vinny repeated, letting his smile grow a little larger. She smiled and twirled her hair around, their gaze meeting then going back down to the ground. Vinny ran his hand through his hair (only to take his comb out and fix it back) and began to speak again. "Beautiful name, I'm still Vinny!" His attention then turned back to the teen which had been sitting there, almost possessed by the fellow Brotherhood mutant. Vinny's smile soon dissipated as he patted his hand on his pant leg, wondering what the teen could have been thinking after hearing the conversation and almost being possessed. To be safe, a small breeze was created, lifting surrounding leaves and the like around. Barely noticeable, although with Vinny, a breeze could turn into a storm in seconds.
Eh, there was no point on trying to be overly defensive. Vinny could try and be friendly, so after he introduced himself to Geneieve, he smirked and nodded his head. "The name is Vinny. Vinny James; pleased to meet your acquaintance, Jason". Then, as Vinny began to talk, Vinny's smile appeared again, only this time growing bigger than previously. This was just too amazing... no, it was better than amazing! It was totally unreal! The newcomer - Jason - had revealed that he too was a mutant! The breeze that Vinny created suddenly died down as Vinny placed his hand on Jason's shoulder and let out a small chuckle.
"So you're one of us too then? Well, glad to know that you've found your real self, brother. Seriously; the more people who discover their gifts, the stronger our species become and the better our chance for survival is. The evolution process continues and the future looks brighter." Vinny began to preach. Being a heavy mutant radical, Vinny could go on forever about how it is natural for mutants to gain the upper hand on humans as they are the next stage of evolution. Vinny turned to Geneieve and raised his eyebrow.
"Who knows, we may have another person boarding with us in the Bro-hood house, ya know?" Vinny said with a chuckle. He was sure that Magneto and the others would be thrilled to have another member in their house. Just as long as nobody touched Vinny's grooming products, then he was thrilled also.
"Almost forgot... er, Jason, right? Your power?"
