First Date (Kiara)

Jonathan was happy about what he had planned today. He was going on his first official date with Kiara, and they were going to the beach today. Rubbing the back of his neck, he thought about the last week and a half. He had been happier ever since then, as well as the fact he was able to focus more on his studies due to the end of his vigilante career. He gave it up for himself and Kiara, as it would have hurt her if he had gotten injured again, and Jonathan didn’t want to hurt her. Rubbing his face with his good hand, he looked at the car he was borrowing to take them to the beach.

Looking at the car, Jonathan knew that he would probably be able to drive it all right. He looked at the door as he heard someone come in. He smiled when he saw it was Kiara and he said “You ready to go?” Opening the passenger side door of the car, he held it open for Kiara. He was happy that they were going on a date.

Kiara was excited. This day was going to be her first date ever. Normally, her career got in the way of trying to have a relationship before it got farther than friendship. This was a first for her. And she liked how it felt.

Two weeks ago, she had barely begun to settle in to life as a mutant in the X-Manor. Her uncle took care of a lot of stuff. Kiara often wondered how he managed it all. She was amazed that a man who was confined to a wheelchair could do so much. Then again, he was the most powerful telepath in the mansion. Maybe even the world.

Kiana rubbed sunscreen onto her face and neck. The beach, even at this time of year, could cause some serious sunburn. She even put some on her arms and legs. She had chosen a long skirt that ended near her ankles, and she'd be wearing a jacket, but you can never be too careful. She slipped on a pair of black flats to go with her denim-colored skirt. She had on a canary-colored tee, her usual type, and a denim jacket. She grabbed a light pink scarf, the only one she owned, on her way out the door. She stopped and tied her long red hair up in a light, sky blue ribbon. She locked her room door behind her, dropping the key in her pocket. She had grabbed her bag, stuck the bottle of sunscreen in a small plastic bag, then dropped it inside. She swung her purse over her shoulder and hurried outside.

She smiled when she saw Jonathan. "I'm all set," she said. "You?" She got into the car and buckled up.

Smiling when Kiara came over to the car and asked if he was all set, he said “Yeah. I’m all set as well.” He had a bag with some sunscreen incase he needed to apply any, a pair of sunglasses and a small towel. Shrugging his jacket to better fit, he looked at the green t-shirt and the denim trousers he was wearing. He thought that today was the perfect day to go to the beach, especially if he was going with the girl he was dating and falling for. Pulling out the garage clicker from his pocket, he clicked the button, opening the garage door.

As Jonathan got into the car and buckled up, he smiled at Kiara. Putting the key into the ignition, he started the car. Driving out of the garage, he clicked the clicker again, closing the garage. Driving to the gates, they parted and he drove out of the institute, and towards the beach. After a while of driving, they arrived at the beach. Parking in the parking lot near the beach, Jonathan turned the key in the ignition, switching the car off. Looking at Kiara, he said “You look beautiful today Kiara. And I hope we have a great day today.” Smiling, he leaned over and kissed her on the cheek. Unbuckling, he got out of the car and said “It looks nice today. It should be fun.” As he said this, he smiled.

Kiara got out of the car, smiling. She nodded. "Not many people out today," she said. She slipped off her flats. "Catch me if you can," she said before taking off down the beach. She ran quickly down the shore, turning after she ran a little ways. "Hurry up!" she called with a laugh. She stopped after a little ways longer and turned to the water.

"This water is so pretty," she said once Jonathan had caught up. "Back in Mississippi, the Gulf waters were all murky... It wasn't the prettiest sight..." She looked up at the sky. "And it was always really windy. The wind here is... Just enough to be nice, without making the sand sting." She bent down and let the water wash over her fingers. She pulled her hand back quickly. "The waters colder here though," she said with a laugh. "But that's to be expected."

Jonathan laughed when Kiara ran ahead and said “Catch me if you can.” He loved a challenge, and tensing his legs, he ran after her. It was good that he had superhuman speed on his side, as he easily caught up with her, and then jogged behind her. When she stopped, he came to a stop as well, and slowly walked to beside her. Just being near her made him feel at ease and happy. As she explained about mississippi, Jonathan smiled and laughed with her.

Jonathan put an arm around her neck and he said “Well, the water’s here are really nice. I’d like to go to mississippi sometime. Maybe we could go together sometime.” Smiling, he took his arm from around her neck, and then put both his arms around her waist. Smiling, he lifted her up with ease. With a cheerful grin on his face, Jonathan said “You know, we never decided if we were going to go swimming today. Don’t worry, I’m not going to throw you into the watter. I just felt like lifting you, so you could enjoy the warmth a bit more.” Smiling, he lowered her down a bit, but still held her up mostly in the air.

Kiara let out a surprised squeal when Jonathan picked her up, her flats falling into the sand. She lightly kissed his forehead when he lowered her. "It's too cold to swim," she said. "I'm used to the heated pool in Mississippi State Hospital, even though I was only there for a few months." She hugged Jonathan, willing the memories of her days in the hospital to go away. She had a new life now. She had Uncle Charles and Jonathan. She had Kiana, who Kiara knew would eventually show up at the X-Manor.

Kiara felt her toes brush the sand. "My feet are getting cold," she said with a laugh. She slipped her shoes on, then turned back to the water. She slipped one arm around Jonathan's waist, pulling him close. She rested her head on his shoulder, a small smile playing at her lips. "I'm glad we came here," she said quietly. "It's so nice. It's probably even nicer in the summer, when the water's warm enough to swim in." She lifted her face to meet a breeze that blew in from the water, eyes closed. The wind caused her deep red hair to billow out behind her. "Besides, I didn't bring a swimsuit," she added, laying her head back on Jonathan's shoulder.

Jonathan smiled a bit as Kiara let out a suprised squeal when he had lifted her up. When she said it was too cold to swim, he had to agree there. However, being with her caused his attentin span to become a bit short. It was probably due to the amount of care and romantic feelings he felt towards Kiara. When she hugged him, he hugged her back, and kissed her on the cheek. Whenever they were together, he always felt ike he could be a lot happier and a lot more cheerful. That was the effect that Kiara had on him when they were together.

When Kiara put his head onto her shoulder, Jonathan smiled and said “I’m glad we came here to. And instead of swimming, cos neither of us have swim suits, we can just lay in the sand on a towel.” Opening his bag with one hand, he pulled put the towel. Laying it on the sand, he was still holding Kiara with one term. He smiled at her and said “Its big enough for both of to lay on. And its far enough from the water that it will take a while before the tide comes in that far. And Kiara? Ever since I met you, I’ve felt like the happiest person around.” Smiing, he gently kissed her on the lips.

Kiara laughed and sat down on the towel. She curled her knees to her chest and wrapped her arms around her knees, hooking them together at the wrists. She closed her eyes as a breeze blew past them. She let his confessions sit for a moment before responding.

"I haven't been this happy in so long..." she admitted quietly, resting her chin on her knees. Her hands slipped down around her ankles, fingers interlocking. "I've been so happy since we got together... But I still feel like something's missing..." She smiled at him apologetically, but it was also somewhat sad. "Without Kiana, I feel... I feel... Alone... I know it sounds silly, but... I've never been more than a day or two without her near me... And she's never been farther than a few blocks away. She'd be able to maintain a telepathic link, so we were only separated physically... Now though..." She sighed and looked toward the water. "Now... We're thousands of miles apart... We're too far apart to maintain a telepathic link... It's so... different without that link between us..." She put her forehead on her knees for a few moments.

"Don't get me wrong," she said, lifting her head. "I really like you... It's just..." She looked at the line in the sand created by the tide. "The bond between twins is just something that can't be replaced... Especially when one of them is telepathic," she added with a hard laugh.

Jonathan smiled when Kiara laughed, and he sat beside her on the towel. He let his hands rest in his ap, as he listened to what Kiara had to say. She really missed her twin, and Jonathan wonder if her sister would be visiting Bayville soon. However, Jonathan noticed her hard laugh when she finished talking. She was happy with him, but she missed her twin. He had never understood that, because he had only ever been an only child. However, his sense of empathy was very good, and he sort of understood how Kiara felt, even though he himself had never felt like this before.

Putting a hand on Kiara’s shoulder, Jonathan said “Kiara, I’ve never known what its like to have this sort of bond, but it sounds special. I think, that next time you and Kiara are at a school together, you should try and keep the telepathic link between each other most of the time. However, I don’t think you should try and keep the link up every single second, as it could strain your sisters powers, possibly even overload them like yours do. All i can say is, try and remember that your sister is always going to be there for you, and that you just need to remember that to keep yourself from getting upset.”

Kiara's face softened. "I know," she said quietly. "But... The link between us is more of a twin thing than a mutant thing. Like when she comes into my dreams and remembers it," she added with a laugh. "The bond between siblings is strong, but the bond between twins is stronger. Even at this distance, I'll know if she's hurt or in pain, and she'll have the same feelings. She doesn't know that we're allergic to smoke though." She laid her head on Jonathan's hand. "Wolverine came to visit me after you left... Of course, he had his cigar, and he blew the smoke toward me. He put it out when he realized that it wasn't just regular coughing, though." She smiled softly when she remembered the look on his face. "He can be really kind when he wants to be. He just has trouble showing it. When he does, he shows it in his own way."
